Episode 26: Top 12 Biohacks for Your Health

Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas, everybody, specifically the health hunters that are listening to the show right now! I guess Christmas is on Monday, and today’s Saturday. This is pretty timely, the message we’re going to bring today, Dr. Pompa. We talked off air of what we really think that would add massive value to you. I know it’s only two days before Christmas. However, there are some great gifts that last a long time. It can add major value to your health, your longevity, weight loss, and even help you overcome some of the health challenges you may have. That’s what we wanted to do. We wanted to do the 12, essentially, biohacks or the 12 things you can buy yourself, or buy others, or loved ones for Christmas that will have a massive impact on their health and their life.
Dr. Pompa, we know these things because we live it on a daily basis. We have all the gadgets. Some of them are sitting in a box, and we don’t use. There are several that we found that are highly effective, and we’ll tell you how we use them in our lives. We’ll put some links into the show notes so that you can grab some of these things even before Christmas, or run out and get them at your local stores, or just get them after the New Year as part as your—part of your New Year resolution is to buy yourself something that you can utilize in your kitchen, in your home, in your exercise routine, on yourself personally that can add some massive health benefit as a health hunter in the New Year. Dr. Pompa:
I have to say these are—I have every one of these myself, right, except one, and I’ll tell you which one. Maybe I need to gift myself. Not only you can bless yourself with these, but you can bless your loved one who’s interested in being healthier, and Warren, you said it best, right? It’s like these are things not only do I have them but that I use constantly, right? I think these are absolutely unique gifts that I think it’s going to be really fun to explore this for you all. These are things I promise you none of you have thought about. I think they’re all really practical gifts. Anyways, all right, let’s go. Let’s go for it, number one, right?
Warren:
Number one; let’s start in the kitchen because we—I wanted to start there. I knew that we were going to start with air, which is—we’re leading to number two in the 12 days of Christmas. On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me.
Dr. Pompa:
Here’s the thing, though. Do not get your wife this for Christmas. Okay. This is the fun gift for yourself. This isn’t a good one for your wife. You may get your husband this. He’d actually probably think it was really practical and really love it so vice versa no-go, but go ahead, Warren. What is it?
Warren:
This is something; it’s typically bought for Christmas, and I’ve seen this over and over again. It’s also a wedding gift that you get, or you get these things, and they’re very expensive, but they’re actually toxic for you. Those things are a good pots and pans and especially the ones that use every day. We want to minimize the sources of toxins in our lives, and pots and pans are one of the greatest contributors to toxic heavy metal poisoning, some of the other chemicals with nonstick, even in the new renditions of them in the New Year using the wrong things too many times. Especially, iron pans can have inorganic iron, which your body can’t process, and it can build up if you’re using that too often. Let’s not only discuss what types of pan to get but why these are best so the pink elephant in the room.
Let’s just cut right to the chase. The safest pot and pan and we’ve done the research is typically a stainless steel pot and pan, but there is some caveats there that you need to look out for as far as the amount of nickel. If you do have a nickel pan, how do you minimize nickel poisoning, which is essentially—it can be very toxic to your body.
Dr. Pompa:
Yeah, right. I think you’ve researched this more than anyone I know, actually. The 18/0, meaning zero nickel, explain that, Warren. You have really looked into this, and I bought my silverware on this notion.
Warren:
This is a hard one to find, just to be honest with you.
Dr. Pompa:
It is.
Warren:
We have 18/0 cookware and 18/0 stainless cutlery. Some of the research and I know we discussed this, if you get the 18/5 or 18/10 is typically what you’ll find, that’s 10% nickel. That’s what gives it that nice shiny look. In almost everything, everyone wants shiny, so 18/10 is almost everything. You can find 18/0 pots and pans out there. They’re just hard to come by. Some of my pots and pans are 18/0. Some are 18/10. All my silverware is 18/0 because you put it in your mouth. You scratch on things, and so some of that nickel can come off.
What I would recommend is trying to find 18/0 pots and pans, and these things come and go. I will do some research again and find some for you, and put them in the show notes. I’m not going to promise they’re going to stay there. When you go to Bed Bath & Beyond to buy them, I’m telling you, the customer service person isn’t going to know. Usually, on the boxes, you turn it over, and you look on it. If not, you turn the pot over, and on the back, it’ll let you know if it’s 18/10 or 18/0. If you can get 18/0, that’s the safest.
Now, there is some other options that are out there as well such as cast iron. Dr. Pompa, this is probably again…
Dr. Pompa:
Cast iron can actually be useful for somebody who has anemia, low iron. However, many people have high levels of ferritin. You don’t want your ferritin to start creeping up above 100. It becomes oxidative and toxic. Really, one of the only ways to bring it down is bloodletting, donating blood aka, but it is very oxidative. If you look at the damage effects, the heart attacks, the stroke, high ferritin is really damaging, so do not get iron pans.
If you have low iron, then an iron pan’s a great thing, but you have to keep them oiled. You take something like almond oil, which takes heat, and you cure them. Right when you buy them you cook the oil. You boil the oil really hot. Then you wipe it off, and then after that, when you’re done using it, you always re-cure it. That’s how you use one of those iron pans, so not for everybody.
Here’s a little bonus. I know that many people go, oh, my God. You have stainless steel. You can’t cook an egg in that. You’re right, actually. That’s when stainless steel is not good. Iron can be good if you cure it right, etc., etc., but not great. I know every one of you are saying…
Warren:
They become nonstick after a while. It just takes a long time to season them. As you continue to cook them, they self-season, and you don’t use soap to clean them out. There’s a lot of—there’s a learning curve there. We won’t get into—this won’t turn us into a chef show, but you really have to research and know how to season them properly. They can become nonstick. You have a special pan that’s expensive. Yeah.
Dr. Pompa:
Yeah. There is a nonstick that I looked into that is the healthiest one that I could find. The problem is is they don’t hold up. This one does, and I have a brutal family, five kids, teenagers, cooking on these things. It’s called a Scanpan, so it’s like S-C-A-N and then pan. It’s out of Denmark. It’s not cheap. It’s not incredibly expensive for what you get, but it works. It’s nontoxic. The PFOEs and all these toxins that, when you keep these nonstick pans, come off and fill the air…
Warren:
Uh-oh. We’re moving on to the end of the show there because you called in there, Dr. Pompa.
Dr. Pompa:
Yeah.

All right, all right, we’re back. We talked quite a bit about pans.
Dr. Pompa:
I know.
Warren:
Here’s what we’re going to do.
Dr. Pompa:
Let’s just make this point. You’re right. This whole show is not about pans. There’s something called PFOAs, and they’re extremely toxic. If you have an older pan in your home, you’re getting poisoned. Matter of fact, so much so that in 2015 this was outlawed. Pans aren’t allowed to have them. However, it probably wasn’t until 2016 that it was still there, so if you have a pan that’s over a year old, oh, yeah, you’re poisoning yourself.
Scanpan, they never have those things in it and the other chemicals that a lot of the other companies have moved to, so there you go. If those pans are scratched, peeling, now you’re really poisoning yourself. Scanpan, there you go. Let’s move on, number two.
Warren:
I’ll put stuff in the show notes too because there is some good ceramic pans that are nontoxic. There’s no lead in them. They’re great. They’re just not that great for cooking. We use them occasionally.
Dr. Pompa:
Exactly.
Warren:
We’ll put some of the other options in the show notes. The next one is our air. There’s no better gift than especially in your sleeping space to have air filtration. Toxins, germs, obviously allergies, things that cause inflammation in your body just in particulate matter floating around in your home so cleaning that up is—can highly benefit your immune system, and help you out in a major way. I also recommend and, Dan, you can chime in here is getting one with a little bit of a carbon block to it, and there’s some really cool ones out there today. We have some old school ones. I’ll actually look the name up and talk about it while Dr. Pompa speaks to this point. Filtering your air is really, really important, a great gift.
Dr. Pompa:
Look, I think as far as a basic for your health is clean air. It seems so ridiculously basic, but I’m telling you, there’s nothing bigger. I deal with very, very challenged people, and once we get their air right, magic happens. We’re almost able to breakthrough so many of their symptoms. You would not believe how bad air can be in today’s homes. Why? We’re building homes airtight, and therefore, toxins stay in. You bring new things in. If it’s a new home built in the last two or three years, oh—but the VOCs as they’re called, volatile organic compounds, are through the roof. Many people start getting sick with these newer homes, and they don’t know why.
Even an older home, you bring in a new carpet. Everything has flame retardants with bromine, which attacks your thyroid, and fresh air is the answer. Filtration I should say is the answer. I’m telling you, you want to sleep better. You want to be better. You want to downregulate inflammation. Just clean your air. I mean, you can buy one of these portable units that Warren’s talking about. You’re in your bedroom at least eight hours a night. Clean that air. Filter it through one of these, and watch what happens to your sleep.
You can also get whole house air filtration from a lot of these same companies. Warren, go ahead. Did you find it?
Warren:
Actually, my internet, because we’re doing this live, I’m not able to look it up. There’s a lot of lamps and things like that that put ions in.
Dr. Pompa:
The one that Warren found is actually a little cheaper than this one, but I’ll give you the—it’s the IQAir. IQAir makes a great unit, and I do like the one with the carbon because that takes the VOCs out, the chemicals, and it’s not just HEPA. HEPA’s great if you have allergies. It takes the particles out, but the carbon blocks actually take the chemicals out better. Warren found one. The IQAir is a little pricy, right? It depends on what you actually get, but it can be up around $1,000. It cleans a pretty large air space, but the other one, Warren, was much cheaper. I think they start [00:14:07] go higher.
Warren:
I found it. Oh, well, there’s some other versions. There’s some knockoffs of the ones that I got. The one that I like and the reason I like, because it’s not made out of plastic, right? There’s some really good carbon filtration blocks type activated carbon units today. I’m just looking at them online. The one that I got was—what is it called (the Airpura)?
What I’ll do is I’ll put these in the show notes. Again, I can’t remember the name of the unit I bought, but I have three of them in both of my kids’ room and my room. I found it to be the—it’s still around a thousand bucks, but you can replace the carbon filter. There’s no plastic whatsoever. There’s no bells and whistles but just simply the—it’s a fan that pulls air through filtration and blows it through carbon. As a matter of fact, I was thinking about designing one. I said why doesn’t someone just get a powder coated can, and suck air up through the bottom, and then blow it out the top through air filtration and then carbon, and then you’d be done? Then, all of a sudden, I’m looking for it online. Of course, someone already did it, so they’re a great unit. I’ll throw those down into the show notes.
Another great tip, if you’re in your house, it costs you nothing. Just crack your window. Then that let’s on to humidity if you live in humid air. Another great way to clean up your air quality is to knock down your mold counts by dropping your humidity below 50% so getting a dehumidifier. This time of year, it’s Christmas. They’re not as available. People buy that in the summers, but that’s a great thing. If you don’t have dehumidifier and you have a damp basement, that’s a great gift to impact your health because you’re knocking down the mold count in your house.
Dirty electric, no, water, we’re going to water, water filtration. Dr. Pompa, we shot videos on this over the years. I’m a big water guy. Part of my training is hydrogeology. I looked at toxic water my whole life and cleaning it up in the environment. I’ve researched this, and found a really great company called Dime Water. We actually carry some of their units, the ones that we use on revelationhealth.com.
They’re great units, and what I like about them is they have whole house options. You can clean up your shower water, so you’re not smelling that chlorine. You’re not getting pharmaceuticals. You’re not getting fluoride and all the things that absorb through your skin through your shower and cooking on a daily basis. You can also get either an RO unit, which takes out everything, but it leaves some of the pharmaceuticals, or you can get these high-end units. I’m trying to think of the name of it. They have specific names of it, but it essentially gives you water like you would a chemistry class. It pretty much removes everything. I think that’s called the Aquifer Plus or something.
Dr. Pompa:
Yeah, that one’s a good one. Dime Water is a company that we’ve used for a while, and you can send them a little sample of your water. Then they’ll build a filter, a whole house filtration unit around that, around your water, so you’re not wasting money. A lot of mediums you don’t need necessarily with your water so Dime Water, like dime, D-I-M-E, water.com. I think they’re great. Like I said, they have access to many different filtration mediums, and it’s a little bit different for the water.
Now, look, I’m a believer in just simple RO. I’m telling you, Costco has a great RO unit. I bought one for my daughter for Christmas last year. There you go. She absolutely loved it. She just said it was my favorite gift, but it was 300 bucks. It’s really a great unit, easy to replace the filters. Anyway, that’s my suggestion.

Welcome back, health hunters, to “The 12 Biohacks of Christmas” that’ll make great Christmas gifts that will gift you health and longevity and more energy as you ramp up your life in things that disrupt it like air, water, and toxicity, so a big one that Dr. Pompa is really good at and an expert at because he’s implemented this completely in his home. I have not yet. I’ve done a few things. I have a grounding mat. I have protection on my cellphone, but I don’t have everything that Dr. Pompa has. Dr. Pompa, let’s talk about giving the gift of removing dirty electricity and EMF for Christmas, and we got to roll through this one fast too.
Dr. Pompa:
Yeah. I’ve done some Cellular Healing TV shows on this. Otherwise, this wouldn’t seem like a very good gift at all, but let me tell you something. More and more science shows that the EMF, these electromagnetic frequencies that are produced by our phones, our computers, and yes, even the wires running through your walls that in some of us that live in even older homes or in certain areas have really dirty electricity. What that simply means is it’s giving off a lot of radiation that shouldn’t be coming off of these wires and outlets. There’s a simple solution. Gift yourself.
It’s called Greenwave, and you can find these things online for about 25 bucks each. They direct you on what outlets are best to put them in, absolutely your bedroom, some of the main outlets that are right near your head. You plug these things in, and it cleans up your electricity. It drops your radiation. I’m telling you, night and—every night sleeping with radiation that high going towards you. I have a device to measure it, so you can measure dirty electricity. You can measure EMF. The other one would be to clean up your workspace. I sit at my computer every day. I’ve made sure that I minimize my EMF.
I’ll give you a website that you can buy some of these things. The Greenwave, no doubt you’re better off googling. You can find these things on Amazon. Some of these other things to clean up your workspace is EMF—I’m sorry, LessEMF.com. You can go there and purchase many of these devices. Grounding units where you basically ground yourself while you’re at your computer makes a big difference. Even testers, if you want to test your EMF, they have them at LessEMF.com, but the Greenwave to clean up dirty electricity, just google it. Find them online. You get them for about 25 bucks, high $35.
Warren:
I mean, those are powerful solutions. There’s some really good cellphone ones out there as well. There’s the ones where—you want to have the ones that block. You can have the ones that fold up and essentially have a type of Faraday cage, so when you’re on the phone and you’re holding in your hand, we recommend you doing that. At least it’s not coming through that one side of the phone that’s pointed at you, and then there’s some other devices where it directs the EMF out the back of the phone to the point of 90%. There’s new ones coming out all the time. Less EMF probably has some as well. Just make sure they have research behind it. As far as I’m concerned, the ones that say we turn it into things that are less damaging, I really can’t see the science on that very strong, but I can see the ones that actually block. You can measure that, so the ones that completely block EMF, like the ones that have the covers that flip over, the one side has a full metal plate in there, or something that blocks EMF, or a Faraday type cage that removes that, or the ones that direct it out the back that absorb it and just redirect it. Those are the ones that we recommend, and we can put some of those in the show notes as well.
Moving on, one of the great gift—I mean, I just actually talked to Ben Greenfield the other day. I’m like looking for some ways to—I had a business. We advertise and utilize these things in videos, so I’m like, look, this is a good investment for my company to test these things on my health, test them on myself, and teach our doctors and our followings how to utilize these things. Share them with you on the radio show. One of the things he said is the best thing you can do that you utilize a lot, that’s easy to use, that has a massive biohack or a massive benefit to your body is red light therapy. The company that we love and use that has high intensity is called Joovv Light, and I think we have even a website for that, GetJoovv, G-E-T-J-O-O-V-dot-com, GetJoovv.com. Anyway, Dr. Pompa, talk about the benefits of light therapy, and I can tell you why I love my Joovv Light so much.
Dr. Pompa:
Yeah. I mean, it does mitigate some of these bad frequencies, but it goes beyond that. I stood in front of my Joovv Light this morning. It’s a biohack into the mitochondria. What does that mean? So many of us—our mitochondria, toxins affect it. That’s where you produce ATP. You don’t have brain fog, so you can think clear. Obviously, have energy, lasting energy day all day without stimulants. ATP is everything. We won’t get into a class on biology, but this is a way around it.
People that seem like I’m doing all these things, my energy is still low. These certain wavelengths of red light—so there’s red light frequency. There’s infrared frequency and/or near infrared. They are able to directly affect your mitochondria where you make energy, so therefore, you immediately start producing more ATP. It upregulates a pathway called the cytochrome c pathway where you actually make energy. It’s brilliant, and it works. It also upregulates really good hormones like testosterone. That’s why athletes do it to recover faster, but the average person, okay, you’re not doing it to recover faster. Meaning be able to build better muscles and heal after you work out. It helps you recover faster.
You just feel better because your body is anti-inflammatory. It’s anti-inflaming, I should say. It really provides something the opposite that we’re bombarded with every day, and these red frequencies—especially staring at screens all day with blue light, studies show it disrupts our sleep, our ability to get in delta sleep where your body detoxes itself literally. Your brain detoxes itself. By doing these red lights, it actually offsets a lot of what we’re not getting. We’re not outside enough and especially under these particular wavelengths. People do it and go, oh, my God. I feel so good.
Ladies, here’s the big benefit for you. It stimulates collagen production. After a month, well, they say actually two months, you start noticing a difference in your wrinkles, your skin tone, texture so major, major benefits there. People that have thyroid issues put the light right on their thyroid. They notice a difference within weeks, so really cool biohack just to feel simply better. I got one. So do you.
Warren:
Yeah. I love my Joovv Light. I do yoga in front of it. I work out in front of it. I utilize it all the time, and so love the Joovv Light. There’s lots of ways to biohack and use that.
The next one I also think is something really great and easy to use. We found, actually, a new company that has I think at least five patents on delivering exactly what they say. A lot of people get infrared saunas, but most of those are made in China. They catch fire. They can be dangerous, and you’re not sure what they’re delivering. Some of them have high EMF.
This company, although you pay for what you get, it’s a more expensive gift. I think these units are right around 22, 23 hundred dollars for their lay down unit, but they’re just wonderful. The benefits of far infrared for detoxification and cellular change, Dr. Pompa can speak to that, but it’s something that I use every day. I’m in there 20 minutes. I’ll listen to a podcast. I’ll listen to the Bible. Occasionally, I’ll put my phone up on top, and I’ll do a phone call when I have to. I do multiple things in it, and I’m getting the benefit of detoxification, and I notice.
I’ve used a lot of infrared units. I put in this thing the first time, and it literally detoxed me. It made me sick. I stunk afterwards. I mean, this thing, they really work. The neat thing about them, they don’t—we’ll finish up on saunas when we get back with our announcements here, and then we have a bunch to go through. Now, again, we love coffee. You should cycle off and on it. I drink it every day, even though I probably should cycle on and off it just like any powerful herb. Yeah. No. I love it. We drink it too. You wouldn’t believe how many chemicals, biotoxins are in coffee, so if you’re drinking coffee every day, huge upgrade here, huge upgrade. All right, what’s the next one?
Warren:
The next one is taking some of that coffee and injecting it inside of you rectally and making a coffee enema. Buying yourself a coffee enema bucket, why not? Don’t get it for your wife. Don’t get it for your children.
Dr. Pompa:
My wife did one this morning. I did one over the weekend.
Warren:
Merily, that would be a good gift for her.

Yeah. Yeah, right.

I’d give her some—a nice bracelet in their too.
Dr. Pompa:
This is an inexpensive gift. Look, there’s coffee enema bags, right, that are more inexpensive. Get the stainless steel bucket, and use the coffee that we just suggested. It’s very important, by the way. What does a coffee enema do? Very quickly, it stimulates your liver to dump bile. Why is that important? The bile holds the toxins.
Many people that have heartburn, digestive issue, it’s because this bile gets toxic and sludgy. When it comes through this little duct that comes right off the gallbladder, well, guess what? The pancreas also releases enzymes for digestion that meet right into the same bile duct. The problem is is the bile gets sludgy and slow and toxic. It interferes with the enzymes from the pancreas, so it’s a lose-lose. You’re interfering with your bile that you need to break fat down. Many of you are like I can’t eat a lot of fat or have trouble digesting dense foods. This could be the problem.
Also, the more clean your liver is the more you’re able to deal with other toxins like alcohol over the holidays. Not making a recommendation, but I’m just saying my wife does them periodically because she says—I’m going to be honest with you. I start to get to the point where if I have over two glasses of wine, I can’t handle it. When she does coffee enemas, she is like, okay, I can do four glasses, and feel nothing the next day. All right, she’s doing it for other reasons beyond that, but it’s a cool note that when you clean your liver out, your body detoxes everything better. You digest better. By the way, you need bile to shut your stomach acid off. It neutralizes it. People that get a lot of acid burn, it’s because of their bile, their toxic bile, so do a coffee enema, great gift.

All right, another one, this goes in with air. Get some plants for your home. I researched these. You can research them online, the top ten best plants for your air quality. Dracaena, D-R-A-C-A-E-N-A, they’re easy to get. You can buy them on Home Depot, and have them dropped off at your house.
Buy some pots online to put them in. Put some nice pebbles on top. Make it look really pretty. Beautify your home. It helps your mindset, and it cleans your air peacefully. I love those snake plants or, otherwise, mother-in-law’s tongue. Those things last forever. You don’t have to water them a lot.
The peace lily, they’re hardy, but you got to water them all the time. The dracaena, they’re pretty hardy as well, so getting some plants, it’s a great a gift. It’s fun. It livens up your home. Your kids love them. You can do it together. Plant them in the pots. Transplant them in the garage. That’s what we do.
Another great gift is checking your ketone levels. Those are the ones that Ben uses, and we’ve seen them at biohacking conferences. Biohacking conferences are essentially where you go and learn how to biohack your body to make it perform better. Putting these on an hour before bed when you’re looking at your computer or your phone really helps your sleep so getting some blue light blocker sunglasses.

Then the last thing, it’s something that I’ve always loved. I like to train, and I’ve been—had personal trainers for three years. The greatest biohack type of burst training product that I love is a Concept2 rower. I like the Concept2 rower, Model D. It’s just more of a professional model because you can—it last longer, but they’re right around 1,000 bucks. Man, if you want to do burst training, they’re not hard on your joints. You don’t have to move your arms back and forth like on an Airdyne bike, resistance bike. Love those. Love Airdyne bikes. I have one of those too, but I really love my Concept2 rower for doing burst training. It gets my heart rate up so fast, and it’s just one of my favorite burst training pieces of equipment that I use.
You can also use it for other things, but I used it just this morning. I did four 60 seconds at 90% of my max heart rate. I just did 4 sets, 60 seconds on, 60 seconds off, and by that last fourth set at 60 seconds at 90% heart rate, I was crushed. Now, that’s probably a little high if you do something like that to start. I haven’t eaten yet. I’m fasting. I have a nice growth hormone spike, and I did my workout in front of my Joovv Light as much as I could with dumbbells. If I do my stretching or rolling out on a roller, I do it all in front of that Joovv Light, and I also listen to podcasts and things while I do that. This is how you can maximize and biohack your life using and doing multiple things while you’re exercising, so love my Concept2 rower, Dr. Pompa. I think you should get one.

Yeah. No doubt. This is the only one I didn’t have so absolutely. I’m like the outside guy, right? It’s like I try to get outside as much as possible. Obviously, there’s times I can’t, so it’d be good for that.
Warren:
That’s awesome. If we’re talking healthy things, one of the things that Dr. Pompa and I both do is—you’re exercising indoor a lot, but find stuff you can do outside like skiing in the winter, or going hiking, or snowshoeing, or bike riding. Try to get outside as much as you can even in the winter. Getting natural sunlight as God intended is the way to go.
Dr. Pompa:
Yeah. Perfect. Yeah. No. I mean, look, I—these things are fun, man. Honestly, we love them. We do them. I know that they’re things that you probably haven’t thought about.
